'Rankled' Trump issues veto threat over Chuck Grassley's bipartisan tariff bill

President Donald Trump has reportedly threatened to veto a tariff bill sponsored by Sens. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA).

Axios reported on Monday that the White House objected to the bill that would limit the president's ability to impose tariffs without first notifying Congress.

"If passed, this bill would dangerously hamper the President's authority and duty to determine our foreign policy and protect our national security," a White House statement sent to congressional offices said. "If S. 1272 were presented to the President, he would veto the bill."

At least seven Republican senators have indicated that they would support the bill.

"You don't get a first introduction and get so many people on board, but I think it shows the anxiety that people have," Cantwell told CBS News on Sunday.

Sources told Axios that Trump was "rankled" by the introduction of the bill.
