Arne Slot boost spotted in Liverpool training after eye-opening weekend

Liverpool's players were put through their paces at the club's AXA Training Centre on Monday ahead of the Champions League encounter against Galatasaray.

The Reds put in their final preparations before flying to Turkey on Monday, when Arne Slot and a yet unconfirmed player will speak to the media.

There were no notable absentees from the group that trained at Kirkby, with all first-team players accounted for, except for the injured Giovanni Leoni. The Italian sustained a season-ending injury last week in the Carabao Cup win over Southampton, leaving the Reds with just three center-backs at present.

Jayden Danns also wasn't in training after he suffered an injury playing for the U21s over the weekend. The forward was named on the bench in the last Champions League outing against Atletico Madrid, but won't be involved on Tuesday.

Fresh from Saturday's disappointing loss against Crystal Palace, Arne Slot led training and spoke briefly to his players before the session got underway.

On a sunny morning in Kirkby, the players appeared to be in a relaxed mood, if the usual jovial spirit was missing. There were certainly fewer jokes and laughter than in previous training sessions.

After a quick warm-up with running drills, the players split into pairs and used resistance bands and medicine balls.

The group then headed over to the other side of the pitch and took part in a quick small-sided game.

Mohamed Salah and Florian Wirtz looked sharp despite their indifferent performances at the weekend.

Liverpool will be looking to make it two wins from two in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Reds began their European campaign with a 3-2 win over Atletico, while Galatasaray lost 5-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Turkish team has been in formidable form domestically, however, and has won all seven league matches this term.

For Slot, he will likely make changes in the midst of a 21-day run in which the Reds play seven matches. This is the sixth of that gruelling schedule, and the abject display at Selhurst Park will probably influence his team selection.
