Indonesia-US tariff deal finalized, signing set Feb 19: Prabowo

Indonesia and the United States have reached an agreement on a reciprocal tariff arrangement after months of negotiations, President Prabowo Subianto said in Washington, D.C.

The agreement is scheduled to be signed on Thursday, he added.

Prabowo said his visit to the United States aims to finalize what he described as an important trade deal for both countries.

"We have been negotiating very intensively over the past few months, and I believe we have reached a solid agreement on many issues," he said during a dinner with US business leaders.

He expressed hope that the agreement would strengthen economic partnership and cooperation between Indonesia and the US.

In addition to the reciprocal tariff arrangement, the two countries have signed several agreements involving government institutions and private companies.

"These include implementation agreements as follow-ups to the main points agreed upon by both sides, particularly concerning efforts to address the trade balance," he said.

Prabowo is in the US to attend a series of events, including a meeting with US business leaders on Wednesday, the inaugural summit of the Board of Peace (BoP) on Thursday, and a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump.

The bilateral meeting is expected to include the signing of the reciprocal tariff agreement, negotiations for which have been underway since 2025.

Under the arrangement, Indonesia has committed to expanding market access for US products, addressing non-tariff barriers, and enhancing cooperation in digital trade, technology, national security, and other commercial sectors.

The United States, meanwhile, has committed to granting tariff exemptions for several of Indonesia's key export products not produced domestically in the US, including palm oil, cocoa, coffee, tea, and other strategic commodities.
